Christmas Message from the Executive Head Teacher

Merry Christmas to all my staff, pupils and parents, members of the Management Comittee, local authority colleagues and external partners.

It is with great delight that I am able to say with confidence that the Wakefield Pupil referral system for permanently excluded young people is performing well and providing quality education across the district.

Within Key Stage 2/3 the Centres have responded well to the October 2017 inspection and is moving at pace towards Good.

The Head Teacher, Tony Phillips and his team have made positive and effective changes to the curriculum, style of teaching and learning and continues to care for our younger students exceptionally well.

The four Key Stage 4 sites, under the leadership of Ivor Roberts and Chris Hayward, are part way through a transitional year which will see the creation of a central hub in Crofton. This will align itself to the Wakefield Skills Agenda by providing not only academic qualifications but vocational qualifications on the newly developed site in September 2019.

This transitional phase has recently been inspected by HMI in November 2018 and they reported that the Key Stage 4 PRUs have maintained their Good category.

There are many developments and changes to come in the new year and HMI will be returning in due course to ensure that quality of provision and the outcomes for our young people match our vision. I am delighted to see in the recent report that our care and safeguarding of our young people across Key Stage 4 remains above and beyond that which is statutorily required.

This is an exciting time for the Wakefield PRUs across the district and I am exceedingly proud of the work that we do for the young people that attend our Centres.

Thank you to all our staff, parents, Local authority and local partners for their commitment in securing positive futures for our young people.

I would personally like to wish everybody a happy, safe and healthy festive break and look forward to a successful New Year in 2019

Will Carpenter
