Swithens Open Farm, Rothwell
Enjoyed by both students and staff alike, a visit to Swithens Open Farm in Rothwell gives us the opportunity to see life on a real farm
The animals vary slightly depending on the time of year, but we had the opportunity to see cows and calves, pigs and piglets, rabbits, ducks, geese and 2 micro-pigs, Molly and Millie. The lovely paddock walk offers stunning views over Leeds and the chance to say hello to Millie and Mary the donkeys, and Bilbo a beautiful Shetland pony.
The aim is to provide a student-friendly atmosphere with a real community feel, offering as much interaction with the animals as possible. The chance to engage with the livestock and being able to stroke the rabbits and feed the baby goats.
